In a major turn of events, two suspects, who have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda, has indicated the ‘authority’ which gave ordered to abduct and kill the journalist because of his close links with former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka who contested against Rajapaksha for the post of President of Sri Lanka.
More than ten members of the Army intelligence wing have been arrested in connection with the abduction and disappearance (possibly killed) of the journalist, who was abducted in Rajapagiriya, two days before the Presidential election in 2010.
The Ten members of the Army intelligence wing suspects are being heavily backed by the former President and the group supporting him. Rajapaksa even visited the Welikada prison last week to meet these ten suspects who have been arrested over the incident.
It is rumered that he had beged the suspects to NOT to tell the truth and when he comes to power he will help them with diplomatic posts in foreign countries. The suspects have promised the Rajapaksha that they will not tell the truth about the orders received from Defence establishment as it was common in Mahinda Rajapaksha government to offer diplomatic posts to members of Army involved in serious crime.
The CID has already found evidence to suggest that the journalist was abducted in Colombo, and later taken to Girithale Army camp.
He had been detained at the army camp for several days and the intelligence wing members had questioned him over a booklet titled ‘family tree’ and his alleged connections with former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
