Protest was a comedy with the people partying on the street after consuming liquor

7th September 2018 // 0 Comments

While claiming that political parties had a right to organise street protests, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said today that the Janabalaya protest march organized by the joint opposition had undermined the peoples’ genuine protest against the government. JVP MP Vijitha Herath told a news conference that the JO protest was more of a drama than a protest where drunken people had fun on the streets. “Wednesday’s protest was a comedy with the people partying on the street after consuming liquor. What happens in such cases is the diluting of the protest against the government. That is why it became a failure with even the organizers admitting it is a failure,” he said. The MP said the government had plunged the country into a grave […]

Peiris, Hiran Amarasekara and supporters of Mahinda regime. Gen. (Rtd.) Kamal Gunaratne in Colombo. Mr. Rajapaksa said “Some asked why retired military officers were appointed as diplomats. One reason was that these appointments recognized the service which they have done to the country. The other reason is that their service done as envoys to the country is more immense than the service done […]

Prez, PM can insult Mahinda in the North because Mahinda killed thousands of Tamils.

5th September 2018 // 0 Comments

It was because of what I achieved in the North that President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe now have the opportunity to insult me when they go to the North, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said. Addressing a Sathyagraha organized by the joint opposition (JO) he said, “The incumbent government has violated the independence that we acquired after defeating the LTTE. The people’s democratic rights are being violated by postponing the elections”. “The situation is going from bad to worse. The country is heading towards an autocratic form of governance rather a democratic rule,” the former president Mahinda said. Interestingly there is NO White Vans and kidnapping and killings like we had during Mahindas rule. Journalists, Human Right workers and Tamil politicians were killed […]

However, neither any stadium nor any conference hall has been reserved by the Rajapakshes in light of this campaign until last night. Nevertheless, rooms with maximum facilities in hotels such as Shangri-La, Taj Samudra and Hilton have already been reserved by the group. The main organizer of the campaign Mr. Namal Rajapakshe has organized the event in rather an unorthodox way. He stated […]

Tamil National Alliance – A Sinking Ship

4th September 2018 // 0 Comments

By Kumarathasan Rasingam – Kumarathasan Rasingam Tamil National Alliance (TNA) was formed with the blessings of Liberation of Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader late Pirabhakaran in 2002. While LTTE was engaged in armed resistance, TNA was mooted to agitate peacefully among the Tamils ,and in the Parliament to draw the attention and support of the International Community. TNA also supported the LTTE’s goal of a separate state which was mandated in the General Election of 1977 following the historical Vaddukoddai Resolution in May 1976 sponsored by the late leader SJV Chelvanayakam. During the genocidal war between LTTE and Sri Lankan Government [2006-2009] TNA struck to four demands of Tamils which were placed for negotiations in the Thimpu talks in 1985 in Bhutan between United National Party and Tamil representatives. Even […]

The Tamil Guardian confirmed in April of this year, […]

Killing of several Tamil youths following a racket of abduction for ransom by Navy and cover up by government.

3rd September 2018 // 0 Comments

The progress of ongoing criminal investigations into the grisly killing of several Tamil youths following a racket of abduction for ransom, spearheaded ‘allegedly’ (here, I use the term quite deliberately) by a Naval officer and others during 2008-2009 will be the crucible on which this Government and this Presidency’s commitment to promises made, will be tested most severely. Fair differences between then and now Unlike other instances of the killing of youths, such as what occurred in Trincomalee in 2006, ready excuses cannot be offered as to the chain of evidence becoming cold or pointing to key witnesses living overseas being reluctant to return to testify, as would be naturally the case given the trauma that they have had to undergo. It must be fairly […]

Wigneswaran on September 7 apparently to explore the possibility of patching up differences, it is learnt. There have been open confrontations between Mr. Wigneswaran and TNA MP for the Jaffna district M.A. Sumanthiran giving credence to speculation that the TNA might break up ahead of the elections to the Northern Provincial Council. Against the backdrop, Mr. Wigneswaran, at a meeting with the Tamil People’s Council (TPC), articulated that he had four options in the event of the TNA not giving him nomination – to retire from politics, to join another party, to form his own party or to […]

Sinhala-Muslim riots 2018: Were Police biased or not?

3rd September 2018 // 0 Comments

The Sinhala-Muslim riots that occurred in 1915 had been repeated 103 years later and consideration needs to be given to whether the Police acted as impartially, as they had in 1915, during the present riots, Additional Solicitor General President’s Counsel (PC) Yasantha Kodagoda said yesterday (30). Kodagoda expressed these views at a book launch in Colombo for the 152nd anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police. He added that although the Police had successfully arrested and produced those responsible for the Kandy riots in Court, if there had been any inefficiency or an error of management or an issue in the leadership at the time, or any bias, on the part of the Police officials, which in turn led to the aggravation of the riot, that too […]
