The election will be held on January 3. Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that nominations would be called for the Presidential Election 2015 will be called after 16 days and before 21 days. The Elections Commissioner also said that the election will be held within 45 to 65 days from today (20). Deshapriya added that he will issue the date for nominations and the date of the election within the next 48 hours.    President Mahinda Rajapaksa today signed the proclamation declaring his intention to hold a Presidential Election seeking his third term. Politics in the run-up to the presidential election – EDITORIAL Politics in the run-up to the upcoming presidential election is becoming ever more interesting. On Tuesday the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) announced it had on a matter of policy decided to act independently of the UPFA led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and also announced that Technology and Research Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and Western Provincial Councillor Udaya Gammanpila had relinquished their portfolios.
