Nothing beyond the implementation of the 13th Amendment says UNP and Chandrika!

24th November 2014 // 0 Comments

It is alleged that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Leader R. Sampanthan had discussions with former President Chandrika Kumaratunga on Sunday (23) asking beyond the 13th Amendment. The TNA is asking for implementing the 13th Amendment, bringing in changes in the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) and in changing the governors of the North and East. Kumaratunga in reply, had told Sampanthan not to seek anything beyond the implementation of the 13th Amendment as per the countries constitution.. UNP has already announced that they will NOT go anything beyond 13th amendment and would not allow government leaders to be hauled up before any international war crimes tribunal. It is claimed that few diaspora organisations are debating  “Whether TNA should support any of the Presidential contesters of the genocidal State […]

24th November 2014 // 0 Comments

Some ministers said today they were in favour of abolishing the executive presidency or to at least prune its powers and would continue the struggle to bring these about. At a media conference held Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) head office, the ministers — many of whom were mentioned in the media as possible crossovers to the opposition when asked by a journalist about the President’s statement that he held the files of several ministers to be used if and when necessary — said it was not the correct thing to do or to say. However, they said this was not the right time to abolish the executive presidency or prune its powers because of the international conspiracy against the government and added that while […]

Critically Supporting the Anti-Regime Campaign

24th November 2014 // 0 Comments

It had to happen that way, and the break was only possible with a serious split within the regime. The moment had come for members of the SLFP to take the plunge. And when finally Vasantha Senanayake, MP, crossed over (the first member of the brave ‘suicide squad’) and mentioned that he knew who the common candidate was, the matter was settled. It had to be Maithripala Sirisena. And yet it was somewhat remarkable, in this day and age of unprecedented surveillance, how the opposition forces kept the regime guessing, until a couple of hours before Minister Sirisena left it. But the gates are now open; this is set to be a wonderful and exciting battle, but also a very grotesque one. So grotesque that […]

Tamils banned from remembering their dead Children killed by Army.

24th November 2014 // 0 Comments

By Raj Subramaniam  – To win the hearts and minds of the Tamil people it is of utmost importance that one understands and appreciates their political history and the hardships endured over the course of modern times. Starting in the 15th century Sri Lanka was colonized by the Portuguese, followed by the Dutch, and finally by the British, who granted independence after nearly 440 years of foreign interference in 1948. As the British packed their bags to leave the island, religious extremists took advantage of the confused situation, to seize the entire island for themselves and set forth what would become a long history of violence against Tamils, which has been systematically carried out countless times ever since. These events prove that every time outsiders steal […]

Government being “Foolish” with India, which was very helpful to Sri Lanka in dealing with terrorism and for not fulfilling its promises!

24th November 2014 // 0 Comments

Leader of the Liberal Party of Sri Lanka MP Rajiva Wijesinha says that it is important that Mahinda Rajapaksa does not win the forthcoming Presidential Election, because if he wins the consequences for Sri Lanka’s armed forces will be very negative.
