Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga says that she has a right and qualifications to contest elections more than many other politicians.  Addressing a Bodhi pooja ceremony at Siriwardhanarama Vihara in Henepitamulla, Yakkala organised by Gampaha Deputy Mayor Ajith Basnayake to mark her 70th birthday, former President Kumaratunga said: “I have not done anything wrong. TNA MP condemns rehab for GNs

Former Kilinochchi Parliamentarian of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Sivagnanam Sritharan, condemning the rehabilitation programme for 11 Grama Niladaris of the Jaffna and Kilinochchi Districts said, they were sent there accusing them of having links with the LTTE. He further said that they were sent for rehabilitation without any Court Order but on an order from the Secretary to the Defence Ministry. It is not known whether they will be taken back to service after rehabilitation, he said. The 11 Grama Niladaris who served in Kilinochchi and Jaffna Districts were sent to the rehabilitation camp in Poonthottam-Vavuniya. Women including a young mother are among the 11 Grama Niladaris.  Middlesex Tamil Sports and Social Club (MTSSC) It’s very sad news for cricket we all shocked and saddened by death of this young all rounder the MPSCUK talented cricketer Bavalan Pathmanathan 22, has been passed away while playing Cricket in BTCL Legend League game yesterday Sunday the 5th July. This tragic accident happened while he was batting the fatal ball hit his chest and everyone was on the ground tried to resuscitate and tragically he was pronounced dead at the hospital. China pressurizes to bring Mahinda back

The Chinese government is exerting pressure to bring Mahinda Rajapkasa back to power, ‘Sathhanda’ newspaper claims. Political affairs chief of the Chinese embassy Ren Faqiang is behind this campaign and is making arrangements for his government to fund Rajapaksa’s campaign, it says. In the past few months, Faqiang had fabricated falsehoods in order to create divisions between president Maithripala Sirisena and prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. This Chinese diplomat also has had close connections with top government politicians. TNA rejects nominations for Anandi The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has rejected nominations for TNA Provincial Council member Anandi Saseetharan to contest the August 17 Parliament elections. Saseetharan had requested nominations to contest and enter Parliament but the TNA had today rejected that request.
