Sri Lanka uncovers illegal Gun Trade by Rajapaksa’s RALL

ECONOMYNEXT – A just concluded audit of weapons at the defence ministry’s private sector arm known as Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Limited (RALL) has led to a shocking discovery of an organised trade in weapons that is illegal anywhere in the world. The most alarming discovery is the haul of 320 automatic assault rifles which had their serial numbers defaced in order to prevent the tracing of the original owner of the firearm in addition to the illegal weapons found aboard the now detained Avant Garde floating armoury. Transfer Of Funds To Rajapaksa Account Probed

The Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) has questioned former Chairman of the State Mortgage Bank, Jagath Wellawatte and three former directors about the alleged transfer of a sum of Rs.1.5 million from the State Mortgage Bank to the Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation without a Cabinet approval. Mortgage Bank sources who wished to remain anonymous told The Sunday Leader that three more bank officers had been question by the FCID over the alleged illegal money transfer and added that it was the former Board of Directors under the Rajapaksa regime who had taken the decision without Cabinet approval to remit the money to the Pushpa Rajapaksa Foundation account at People’s Bank. Addressing the 26th convention of the SLMC at Polgolla Hakeem declared: “There is a conflict of opinion within the government. This crisis is evident from President Maithiripala Sirisena’s decision to summon a special Cabinet meeting.” The SLMC convention was held at Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre at Polgolla, Kandy.
