UK-led foreign coalition in overdrive to help GOSL Battle against corruption

by Shamindra Ferdinando An international coalition led by Britain is now helping the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe government stamp out corruption. Deputy British High Commissioner Laura Davies said that the UK would work closely with the US, Australia and Switzerland to help the new administration. Davies is also accredited to the Maldives. Davies said that the UK was in the process of enhancing Sri Lanka’s capability to handle international cases. In accordance with an understanding with the government of Sri Lanka, the UK provides legal advice, training as well as English language training. Former President and Kurunegala district MP Mahinda Rajapaksa today made a visit to the Prison Hospital in Welikada to meet the five army personnel who had been arrested for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of Prageeth Eknaligoda. Sampanthan Frowns on Tamil People’s Council

Opposition Leader and Tamil National Alliance(TNA) Leader Rajavarothayam Sampanthan said recently that his party shall not encourage acceptance of nor accept into its membership any member from any other organization without the consent of the party leadership. President of the newly formed Sinhala Organization for the Protection of War-heroes (OPW) Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera yesterday lashed out at President Maithripala Sirisena over a statement the latter had made recently branding patriots as extremists. “The current government hates the word, patriotism,” Nalaka Thera said, adding that the head of state should not have made such a statement. “There are no extremists in Colombo.
