Mohamed Buruhan came to the UK from Sri Lanka and his student visa had expired when he was caught using the false Italian ID. The 29-year-old was arrested in June when his home in Staines Road, Hounslow, was searched and the fake passport was found. COLOMBO: The Chief Minister of Sri Lanka’s Tamil majority Northern Province, C.V.Wigneswaran, has managed to get a separate meeting with the visiting UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, after being clubbed together with other leaders of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for a full-scale official session with the UN chief when he comes to Jaffna on September 2. Sources in the TNA said that on his way out after a full-scale meeting with the TNA leaders led by party chief R.Sampanthan, Ban will have a brieftete-a-tete with Wigneswaran. Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and seven others have been ordered to appear before the Colombo Magistrate Court on September 30 over corruption charges. The order was issued today by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya. Gota Rajapaksa, along with Avant Garde Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi and six others are charged with making an unlawful profit of Rs. 11.4 billion by maintaining a floating armoury. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption yesterday filed a case at the Colombo Magistrate Court against Rajapaksa, Senadhipathi, Sujatha Damayanti, Palitha Fernando, Karunaratne Bandara Adhikari, Somatilaka Dissanayake, Jayanath Colombage and Jayantha Perera on charges of corruption under the Bribery Act. A Sri Lankan national having suspected links with banned terrorist organisation LTTE was detained by intelligence and airport authorities in Pune on Thursday morning. The detained person has been identified as Suthan Suppiah. According to the police sources, on receipt of specific information, Intelligence Bureau and CISF officials detained a Sri Lankan who was boarding a Luftansa flight for Frankfurt early morning on Thursday. “During interrogation he told that he had worked for LTTE. He has forged passport and visa. While passport had his name as Marimuthuraju, his real name Suthan Suppiah. We are verifying his claims,” said an intelligence officer. The foreign national is presently being interrogated at Vimannagar police station in Pune.
