[Fri, 14 Oct 2016, 23:07 GMT] A group of Sinhalese and Tamil officials of the so-called ‘Peacebuilding Fund’ (PBF) attached to the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) went to the extent of threatening ‘resettled’ Tamil families, who have been dumped at Vaazhalaay, a locality of limestone outcrops and marsh along the Tho’ndaimaa-aa’rau lagoon, when the PBF group wanted to document the so-called resettlement that has been carried out by the occupying SL military and ‘Seva Lanka’, a Sinhalese-led outfit. The families were instructed not to complain anything in video recordings, but only to praise that the SL military had helped them, the people told TamilNet after the episode on Wednesday. The PBF visit has taken place in connection with the fact-finding trip by UN […]

2 hours discussion between president Maithri and culprit Gota ! Maithri’s ‘cyanide’ tale and how he burnt his tail..

16th October 2016 // 0 Comments

(Lanka-e-News -15.Oct.2016, 11.30PM) President Maithripala Sirisena the ‘great villager’ who had never heard of the tale of of the long living prince ‘ look far without looking near’ even when  his aachi (grandmother) was feeding him , related a  ‘  cyanide ‘ story which  created a feeling of triumph and joy among the brutal corrupt group of scoundrels of the  nefarious decade gave a fresh lease of life to them and provided  encouragement to more  corruption and murder . This in  fact is tantamount to most ungratefully and unmercifully hitting   below the belt of the pro good governance masses . The president  on 13 th  night provided an opportunity to ace  rogues like  Mahindananda and Wimal Weerawansa the ‘rabid dogs and rascals ’ of […]

Secret Boris Johnson column favoured UK remaining in EU

16th October 2016 // 0 Comments

Boris Johnson has said Britain’s continued membership of the EU would be a “boon for the world and for Europe” in an unpublished newspaper column in which he wrestles with his decision to back or oppose Brexit.  In a Telegraph article, written days before a published version in which he backed leaving, the foreign secretary wrote of the EU: “This is a market on our doorstep, ready for further exploitation by British firms. The membership fee seems rather small for all that access. Why are we so determined to turn our back on it?” The published column, which appeared in the Sunday Times, is highly critical of the EU as an institution and the renegotiation deal sought by David Cameron. “We are being outvoted ever […]

Trump threatens to prosecute Hillary, Sirisena threatens prosecutors of Gota

16th October 2016 // 0 Comments

by Rajan Philips Donald Trump is in a free fall in the US presidential election. Facing what appears to be certain defeat he is behaving like a wounded Neanderthal and is threatening to take down the American political system with him. He is riling his base for a post-election showdown, accusing the political and media elites of rigging the electoral system to engineer his defeat. He is equally rousing his followers with his (empty) victory promise to subject Hillary Clinton to special prosecution for a lifetime of lies and criminal acts. All of this is shocking, but should not be surprising, because Trump is a grotesque and dangerous clown who is personifying the worst elements of male chauvinism in America against its first female presidential […]

The suicide of the retired Army Officer, who claimed to have killed Sunday Leader Founder Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge, has resulted in new questions being asked, even before answers to the old questions were found. The Army Officer retired in 2007; however Wickrematunge was murdered in 2009. Therefore, the biggest question is who hired him, and which unit in the Army rehired him. Lasantha with Ex-President Mahinda and Justice minister Wijeyadasa The officer who had committed suicide in his home at Kegalle had left a […]

Army not helping probe – ASG

16th October 2016 // 0 Comments

BY STANLEY SAMARASINGHE Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Sarath Jayamanna yesterday told the Supreme Court that the Army… …is not giving any support for the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda. He added that a high ranking officer of Army was summoned to Attorney General’s Department and requested to support the investigations, but the Army did not respond to the request. The Bench comprised Chief Justice K. Sripvan and Justices Sisira de Abrew and Upali Abeyratne when two Fundamental Rights Petitions were taken up for hearing. L/Cpl. Rupasena and Warrant Officer W.M.M.G. Upasena filed these FR Petitions stating that they are in detention over the disappearance of Prageeth Ekneligoda, but they have nothing to with that incident. They requested the Court to direct the […]

Lasantha and friction in ruling camp

16th October 2016 // 0 Comments

The investigation into the Lasantha Wickramatunga assassination has taken many twists and turns, some of them bizarre like yesterday’s suicide of a retired Sergeant Major of the Military in Investigation Unit who has taken the blame for the killing and asked that his friend now in custody, also a member of military intelligence, be released. Ordinary people still do not know for sure whether Wickramatunga was shot dead, bludgeoned or stabbed with pointed instruments. News reports at various times have reported these to have been the cause of death. Hopefully, the ongoing forensic investigations following the recent exhumation of the body will at least accurately establish the cause of death. Given that Wickrematunga was killed as far back as Jan. 8, 2009, there were many […]

President Maithiri. blamed officials for taking Gota and the former commanders of the Navy to court

16th October 2016 // 0 Comments

My dear Maithri, I thought I must write to you because many people- including myself – have begun wondering whether there is someone who looks exactly like you who is going around impersonating you at important public functions these days. Please let me explain why we think so, Maithri. This week, we heard someone who looks just like you and dresses like you speaking at a function. He blamed many people for carrying out their duties. He was very angry and lashed out at officials in a harsh manner. He couldn’t have been you, because there was no maithri at all in the way he spoke. This chap blamed officials for taking Gota and the former commanders of the Navy to court. He said that […]

ECONOMYNEXT – Police investigating the hanging of an ex-military intelligence officer after claiming responsibility for the murder of editor Lasantha Wickrematunga found his telephone records mysteriously wiped out. Ilandarige Jayamanne, 52, was found hanging at his kitchen Friday along with a hand-written note claiming he killed the anti-establishment editor in 2009, two years after he retired from the army in 2007. The man’s 22-year-old eldest son told investigators that the handwriting was similar to that of his father, but an expert report is awaited. The purported suicide note intended for the military intelligence unit, which is a main suspect in Wickrematunga’s killing, says a suspect in custody was not the killer. The note claims that Jayamanne was a friend of the suspect now in custody. […]
