The Joint Opposition (JO) along with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has decided to form a broad political alliance, known as the Joint Podujana Peramuna (JPP), along with 20 other political parties aimed at contesting the 2018 Local Government polls, sources said. They said, that the JPP will contest the forthcoming polls throughout the country including in the North and the East under the flower bud symbol. Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake has told his troops in the North not to get involved in politics.
