US President Donald Trump has been urged to intervene and ensure justice for Tamils in Sri Lanka. Justice sought for five youth killed in Trinco 12 years ago

Justice has been sought for five Tamil youth killed in Trincomalee 12 years ago. Amnesty International said in a twitter post that it was pushing for justice for the victims.  The human rights group said that the security forces had been accused of being involved in the killing and the killers have not yet been prosecuted. British tourist found dead with wound to his face in ‘suspicious circumstances’ in Sri Lanka

The 37-year-old man was due to leave the country on New Year’s Day but had extended his visa for three more weeks A British man has been found dead under “suspicious circumstances” in a suburb of Sri Lanka’s capital. The 37-year-old, whose name has not been released, was discovered with a wound to his face this morning. His body was found at a ground in the Araliya Uyana area of Colombo. Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara told local media that the British national arrived in Sri Lanka on November 25 and was due to leave the country on New Year’s Day. By Namini Wijedasa Some assets located overseas have been “provisionally identified” as being the proceeds of crimes committed by certain politically exposed persons (PEPs) of Sri Lankan origin, authoritative Government sources revealed this week. While they declined to say who these persons were, PEPs typically include politicians and bureaucrats. These were the outcomes of investigations conducted by the CIABOC (Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption), the FCID (Financial Crimes Investigation Division) and the CID (Criminal Investigation Department), they said. “As at this moment, a few assets have been provisionally identified as proceeds of crime committed by certain politically exposed persons (PEP) of Sri Lankan origin.” In financial regulations, PEP describes someone entrusted with a prominent public function.
