ONLY RAJAPAKSHA FAMILY MEMBERS CAN BE A CANDIDATE, OTHERS ARE NOT FIT TO BE THE PRESIDENT.

15th September 2018 // 0 Comments

We have it from the leader himself. Family is the very stuff of Rajapaksa politics and governance. It is the Rajapaksa family that matters. Mahinda Rajapaksa said this in India, when asked by the Hindu whether a member of his family or an outsider would be considered a candidate for the presidency in the coming presidential election. He left no room for doubts about the family way in politics. His response was: “My son can’t be a presidential candidate since they have now raised the minimum age to 35 years, instead of 30, so he can’t be considered in 2019. My brother is certainly a contender, but the party and the coalition will have to decide who the people want.” What party and what coalition […]

By Shyamon Jayasinghe – ෂ්‍යාමන් ජයසිංහ “This time President Sirisena’s sword is  nearing his own neck; not mere smoke flooding his eyes.” Penchant for Playing with Fire President Pallewatte Gamaralalage Maithripala Sirisena has always had a penchant for playing with fire. He did fire-play at the local government elections when he made a disastrous U-Turn and went round country blasting the party and its leader that put him into power. He, next, flopped in an attempt to join his former political enemies and oust Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Unscathed by these foolish moves, the UNP and its leader managed damage control without saying a word. Ranil acted with Buddhist restraint and upekka.  Sirisena should have learned a lesson and turned a new leaf. But no, he must continue to play with fire […]

Another option is to announce a candidate acceptable to all The 19th Constitutional amendment reversed the 18th constitutional amendment by restricting the Presidential terms of office to two By D.B.S. Jeyaraj Former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s interview to the influential Indian English daily “The Hindu” has caused quite a splash among political circles in Sri Lanka. The ex- president was interviewed by Suhasini Haidar and Amit Baruah for the newspaper which has acquired a reputation over the years of being the most authoritative voice on Sri Lanka related issues in the Indian media. Incidentally Suhasini Haidar is the daughter of maverick Indian politician Dr. Subramanian Swamy who displays consistent interest in the affairs of the Island nation. She is the diplomatic affairs and deputy resident […]

Sri Lankan diplomat arrested in Italy for aiding illegal migration

15th September 2018 // 0 Comments

In Sri Lanka anyone who supports the Government are given priority in the diplomat list. Most of the Members of the forces who are accused of War Crime  in 2009 were given diplomat posts by Mahinda Government. It is said that the commanders were ordered to kill thousands of Tamil civilians in 2009 by the Political Leaders in power and diplomat posts were given to keep their mouths shut. The officers of the Malpensa Airport Border Police Bureau, Milan, Italy arrested a Sri Lankan diplomat who attempted to bring four youths into Italy by aiding illegal migration last weekend, Italy’s Varese7press reported. The male, a fifty-year-old diplomat who arrived from Doha together with his wife and four others — two girls and two boys of […]

Crooks of the Mahinda Gov. make themselves out to be victims of a Political witch-hunt.

15th September 2018 // 0 Comments

The police have made President Maithripala Sirisena see red. He has taken exception to the manner in which high ranking military officers are treated when allegations against them are probed and legal action instituted. There have been quite a few ‘show arrests’ under the yahapalana government. Some cantankerous government politicians publicly predict arrests, and their predictions invariably come true. This has lent credence to the Opposition’s claim that the police work according to a political agenda, as in the past. The failure on the part of the present-day leaders to ensure that justice is seen to be done has helped even the crooks of the previous regime make themselves out to be victims of a political witch-hunt. Last Sunday, the police themselves told the media […]
