Palaniswami trains guns on former CM Karunanidhi; says both Opposition parties should be booked for war crimes The DMK and the Congress were fully responsible for the genocide of a large number of Tamils during the final phase of the Eelam war in Sri Lanka, and should be booked for war crimes, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Speaking at a protest meeting organised by the AIADMK to highlight what the party alleged was the role played by the DMK and the Congress in the massacre of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka, Mr. Palaniswami said the tragedy occurred only after Karunanidhi, who was then the Chief Minister, ended his fast within three hours, claiming that a ceasefire had been declared in the […]

Mahinda was bluffing to return to power. – When the question was posed, Mahinda’s face went into a pale blank.

By Shyamon Jayasinghe – Shyamon Jayasinghe “Stamp your foot and tell Mr Rupee: “No. You shall not go down!” Or, Like Jesus Christ addressing Lazarus, the dead man: ‘Rise and come forth.” Ehi Passiko “Ehi Passiko,” is a methodological statement in expressed in Pali and attributed to the Buddha. The sage asserted that his Dhamma must be experienced to to be proven. “Come and experience”(ehi passiko)! Former Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa has said the same about his solution to the currency crisis. Hand over back to me and you will experience the solution like seeing something currently unseeable, in broad daylight.  Seen the Video?  https://www.facebook.com/1804654542891239/videos/942697795936389/ I am thoroughly amused watching a video doing the rounds on Facebook. It is issued with a caption in small lettering: “Sinha Lokaye Sinhaya” […]

Man Who Derailed Investigations Into War Crimes Allegations Wants The World To Look At Sri Lanka With Fresh Pair Of Eyes

26th September 2018 // 0 Comments

While derailing investigations into all war crimes and human rights abuses during the final phase of war, President Maithripala Sirisena, addressing the 73th session of the UNHRC, urged the world to look at Sri Lanka ‘with a fresh pair of eyes’. President Sirisena has openly ordered the Police to refrain from arresting top ranking military officers over killings and abductions that took place under the previous government. Just two weeks before he addressed the UN General Assembly, Sirisena berated IGP Pujith Jayasundara and top officers of the CID for attempting to arrest Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravi Wijegunaratne over killings and abductions of 11 youth. He called upon the international community to look at Sri Lanka from a fresh perspective and consider the “tremendous progress” made by […]

Indian Joker and the Sri Lankan Liar.

26th September 2018 // 0 Comments

By N Sathiya Moorthy By visiting neighbouring India’s capital of New Delhi with politician-son Namal Rajapaksa and his SLPP party chief and ex-ministerial colleague G. L. Peiris, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa may have sought to send out a message of sorts, back home. The message was clear: India is no more an adversary. Nor possibly was India adversarial to his return to power, as Mahinda R. in particular had averred after his historic electoral defeat in January 2015. In a way, the timing of the visit was as much crucial as it was not. ‘Crucial’ because, Sri Lanka for months now has been on election-mode. The reference is to the presidential polls that are not due before January 2020 but about which speculation is rife […]

Sri Lankan Governments must stop playing Racist card for power

26th September 2018 // 0 Comments

For many years Prof. Rohan Gunaratna has been advising and informing consecutive Sri Lankan governments on counter terrorism measures and existing terrorist threats in the country. The Professor of Security Studies at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technology University (NTU), Singapore, has been a controversial figure over the years, both lauded and criticised for his claims in the field. However, the 57 year old has been successful in weaving a web of information around him, as he sits comfortably in his position as the head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research in the city state. Having worked for years understanding, studying and speaking of the LTTE in Sri Lanka, Prof. Gunaratna today is concerned with another extremist group. […]
