The Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council C. Wigneswaran is a former Supreme Court judge and he was quick to condemn the attacks upon the Police and the disturbance at the court complex. He warned that there were opportunistic elements keen to exploit the mistrust the local people had in the Police Department. The fact the he acknowledged inter alia was that even if the war finished six years ago, it will take a long time and a lot of accomplishment before any government will be able to win the hearts and minds of the northern resident, was of note.
