INNOCENT SRI LANKANS WILL SUFFER BECAUSE OF HEAVY HANDED EU DECISION TO END TRADE CONCESSIONS

Brussels 16 February 2010. Conservative International Trade spokesman in Europe Robert Sturdy MEP, said the European Commission decision to remove trade concessions to Sri Lanka would punish innocent Sri Lankans. The trade concessions are referred to as GSP + status.

Mr Sturdy added that human rights violations cannot be ignored but called on the European Commission to work closely with the Sri Lankan government in tackling any violations instead of punishing the country as a whole.

In a statement Mr Sturdy said,

“I am concerned about the impact that the removal of these trade concessions will have on development in Sri Lanka. Trade is the principal means for development and by taking away their GSP + status, you are limiting the country’s ability to grow.

“I wrote in December 2009 asking the Commission what the economic impact would be if it decided to remove Sri Lanka’ GSP+ status. I am still awaiting a response. Now we have a new Trade Commissioner, with a background in development policy, I would hope for some real answers.

“It goes without saying that human rights violations cannot be ignored. I am calling on the Commission to work closely with the Sri Lankan government over the next few months, to assess the efforts being made to tackle any violations, and to consider how it will support the innocent Sri Lankan people who will suffer as a result of this heavy-handed action.”

Brussels 16 February 2010. Conservative International Trade spokesman in Europe Robert Sturdy MEP, said the European Commission decision to remove trade concessions to Sri Lanka would punish innocent Sri Lankans. The trade concessions are referred to as GSP + status.

What has been outspoken by Mr Robert Sturdy MEP is correct in its own right. Any deterrence move against Sri Lankan GSP + status would punish the innocent
    Sri Lankans.

It is a presumption that builds its weight on future fixation of idea. How about the real issue of genocide of innocent Tamil civilians by the Sri Lankan government in the war in 2009 that witnessed a real death toll of more than 50,000 lives? Were these lives expendable for the simple reason of Trade Concessions to Sri Lanka? Do we justify our law of consciousness in simply brushing aside the war crimes committed by the Sri Lankan state in collusion with neighbouring countries India, China, Pakistan, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and many others…….?

Pain and suffering among innocent world citizens is the result of the failure of those democratic leaders in power today to implement policies of deterrence and corrective measures. Sri Lanka is a case study in this regard. The UNO has become a dance group of melody charmers. A world citizen is entrusted with a position to raise the collective consciousness of those in power bloc. You fail to change your idea about the oppressed people like Sri lankan Tamils, you do not honestly wish to bring the change to the oppressed people around the globe. How long more the elite democratic leaders of today’s politics want to DECEIVE their own law of consciousness?

Life never repeats itself, nor does it hide itself in face of atrocity and violence against human innocence and simplicity. These two fundamental ingredients are the soup of a simple happy innocent life that the murdered 50,000 Tamil civilians enjoyed before their life was sizzled out.

A program sustains its existence and admissibility of functional integrity only if it is exposed to harsh challenging conditions. Has any democratic government in power today ever tried a corrective program of remedy to bring war mongers in Sri Lankan war on innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka before the International Criminal Court? No need to say about the UNO under the helm of Mr Ban- – Ki – Moon. He has gone astray from a political modality Sri Lankan war situation demanded. He should be sacked from his post of UN Secretary General. Unless you get rid of weeds in your own garden, your plants never have a chance of healthy growth.

What the troubled world needs is a collective mobility of remedial program that can only be implemented by those who are GENUINELY committed to the idea of change. You can not expect this of those bent on personal enrichment in today’s politics.

Unless you challenge yourself, you will never free yourself from the shackles of ignorance, exploitation, and manipulation.

Be a free world citizen to see others free from pain and suffering. Life is always greater than the person. It has many sides to its single appearance that we are used to see.

What very slowly develops, unfailingly unravels its tremendous power and challenge to human mind.
