UNP DNA vow to join to form government

Though not in tow at the forthcoming General election, the UNP and the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) have come to an understanding to form a fresh alliance after the general election. Former JVP MP for the Anuradhapura district K D Lal Kantha says that the DNA led by his party has come to a clear understanding with the UNP-led United National Front (UNF) to form a government after the April 8 parliamentary poll. “At the moment we are continuing to have a comprehensive dialogue with the UNP-led UNF”, the former JVP MP told ‘LAKBIMAnEWS.

“These discussions have been conducted on an unofficial level, but we are confident of making our consultations official in due course”, he said. MP Lal Kantha also maintained that the DNA has already held discussions with a number of other political parties which are not keen to join the UPFA ahead of the April 8 election.  Coupled with the support of Tamil and Muslim parties from the North-East the possibility of preventing the UPFA from forming a government after April 9 was a realistic goal, he insisted.

Some UNP MPs to challenge Ranil over affidavits, undated letters

Some UNP MPs plan to go to courts after the election if the party puts into effect undated resignations letters and affidavits they have signed before nominations saying they would not cross over, on the request of UNP leaders.
Controversial UNP Moneragala District leader Ranjith Madduma Bandara said that he will go to courts after the election if the party leadership puts into effect the undated resignation letter/affidavit he signed before the party granted him nomination. Only 13 candidates out of 7168 candidates have handed over their ‘Declaration of Assets’  to the Department of Elections

Several civil society organizations and election monitoring bodies will demand the Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake to show them the asset declarations of the candidates who handed them over with the nominations. By Saturday only 13 candidates out of 7168 candidates have handed over their Declaration of Assets to the Department of Elections.
“Only three candidates UPFA Gampaha District leader Basil Rajapaksa, UPFA Kalutara District Candidate Mahinda Samarasinghe and UNP’s Ravi Karunanayake handed in their declarations with the nominations and 10 more have handed over theirs by Saturday morning. Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka has turned down a number of requests to make public the declared assets and liabilities of candidates contesting the upcoming Parliamentary Elections. According to sources, the requests have come from individuals, organisations, political groups and the media after nominations for the elections closed on February 26.

“The regulation stipulates that candidates declare their assets and liabilities within three months of the nominations, but there is no law to prosecute those who fail to do so,” said Keerthi Tennakoon, an independent polls observer with the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE)…………….. http://www.sundaytimes.lk/100307/News/nws_21.html

    We have to carefully separate two issues here. One is rhe general good of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, and the other is the part played by the Tamil militancy group whatever it is. The militancy group is or was not the Tamil community itself, nor the Tamil community is the essence of the militant group. The two are two poles of the called Injustice and discrimination.

    The militant group adopted violence as the tool of achieving the condition for the independent homeland for the Sri Lankan Tamils. But It not only failed, but also decimated the militant group and displaced the Tamils as homeless refugees in their homeland.

    When a certain tool failed to produce the results expected of a system, there are at the disposal of the Tamil community other tools. The one still to be tried is the tool of reconciliation. Reconciliation is not surrender, but a survival mechanism. Certain Tamil Diaspora members, imbedded in the idea of militancy, feel left out and very much hurt by the defeat and decimation of the militant group. Instead of wallowing in the idea of militancy of one sort or another, they have to mount pressure on foreign governments to get involved in the peace process to install peace and harmony as the prerequisite for a meaningful dialogue between the dissenting parties in Sri Lanka.

    History is a muddle of dirty water. Not a single person of worth will ever waste his or her time digging deeper and deeper into the stinking mud. Leave aside Hindu or Saiva religious recantations. They will not solve the problems at hand now.

    Reconciliation and mobility of global voice of democratic governments in power today are the two powerful tools the Tamil Diaspora has to use to bring the rebellious Sri Lankan government to the bargain table.

    Some interesting developments are to impact on the global approach to Sri Lankan Tamil issue. The UN is under pressure from all fronts to proceed with an official inquiry into the crimes Sri Lankan government and Tamil militant group have committed. Another is the strong Chinese presence in Sri Lanka which poses a grave danger to Indian security in the Indian Ocean. India is not going to be an idle duck any more. It is time India woke up from the Sri Lankan sedation and asserted its regional presence. The woes and grievances of the Sri Lankan Tamils are the powerful tools for India to implement corrective measures to ward off Chinese threat to Indian security. Once adopted, this measure will win back the hearts of Tamil Nadu of India.

    Hello Roshan,

    Unknown to your consciousness, you have done a great service to Tamil Diaspora. Your chauvinistic remarks against the Tamil community in your writings have clearly shown the world who you are and what your hidden motives are. As you know there is not any chance whatsoever for you with your efforts for personal enrichment, either politically or on a gratified level. The Sri Lankan regime does not care either about you or your cry for splitting the community further.

    The great service you have done to the Tamil Diaspora is that it has brought together otherwise dissenting Tamils on major issues. What else could they have done without your chauvinistic writings? You are a wonderful friend of Tamils. Even in enmity there is a touch of hidden friendship. You have proved your worth without knowing it.

    Throw mud again and again on the face of Tamils living both in Sri Lanka and abroad. The mud will not defame them, but, instead, decorate them with garlands of compassion and understanding by the global world citizens.

    Keep doing it. You help us the Tamil Diaspora to make us drive the nail deeper and deeper into the law of consciousness of democratic leaders in power today for change in policy towards Sri Lanka.

    Being a sinhala buddhist I am ashamed to read the comments of a sinhala lunatic.     Our Friend India resumed their MASALA TACTICS to control Srilanka using TAMIL ISSUE even after they shot their own feet by defeating the LTTE terrorists who were created by the INDIA to use the LTTE against Srilanka going into others hands but Great Sinhala leaders cleverly use the China and Pakistan to blackmail the India and make the India to support the war against LTTE terrorism and succeeded.
    Our friendly powers inside India- Kerala, Brahmins, Kannsda, Hindutva, Telugus, etc- and Srilanka will destroy the latest Indian move as we did in the past 62 years.
    Our Great Nation -survived more than 3000 years from the tamil invasion from the India and even made the tamilnad to support not only the war against LTTE terrorism and to lock the LTTE brain washed tamils in camps- will thwart any attempt by our relative India using the MIGHTY CHINESE.
    India may be a great country but never ever can take on our long lasting Friend China as India could not even send their PM to Arunachal Pradesh and could not even develop roads in Kashmir after Chinese warnings, If India cannot even challenge the China for meddling into Indian inernal affairs, how can the FEEBLE India allowed to meddle in our Great Nation??
    Srilanka must sign DEFENSE FACT with China at earliest to keep India out of our internal affairs.
    Had we done so, India will nor even DREAM to talk about anything of our internal affairs.
    Since, Our Sinhala leader allowed India DIRECTLY involved in the War On LTTE terrorism, India will not dare to go the UN and support war crimes tribunals as India also will have send their military and political leaders to HAQUE for War crimes,
    So, Srilanka must use the opportunity to sign DEFENSE PACT with CHINA at earliest to keep THE ANNOYING FRIEND INDIA out.
    India -1 Medal in Olympics
    China- Several 100 Medals in the same Olympics.
    That is LAZY India never take on even Pakistan let alone China who can disable the whole Indian military control by shooting all Indian satellites controlling the military command. CHINA RECENTLY PROVED by SHOOTING SATELLITE from LAND.
