No party should be given a two-thirds majority in parliament

In recent days, some contributors to the Press have examined the goal set by the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) to get at least 151 of its candidates elected/appointed to Parliament at the impending polls. These commentators have made various insightful observations. The Citizens’ Movement for Good Governance (CIMOGG) discusses the issue further here so that voters may have yet more background information on this vital matter so as to decide how they should vote.

The UPFA obviously wants to secure this level of Parliamentary strength to enable it to rewrite the Constitution disregarding any views other than its own. Disquietingly, voters have been given only a vague notion of what it plans to do. For a start, it has indicated that future Presidents would be figureheads without any executive powers. Unacknowledged suffering can return to haunt history, says NPR

During the popular Diane Rehm show in Washington’s National Public Radio (NPR) Friday, responding to a question on the muted response of Obama administration to the slaughter of civilians in Sri Lanka, NPR’s commentator Gjelten said, “When people feel that their suffering is not acknowledged and recognized by the international community, they tend to develop grudges, and they remember this. And they are scarred by that experience. Sampanthan warns of ‘hidden agenda’ of Sri Lanka government

“Sri Lanka government does not want any area in the island where minority community lives in majority. Hence the government led by President Mahinda Rajapakse is implementing its ‘hidden agenda’ to colonize such areas with Sinhalese to reduce the majority of minority community,” Mr. R. Sampanthan, leader of Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) and the chief candidate for the Trincomalee electoral district, said addressing representatives of Tamil civil groups in Trincomalee.

GTF resolution inspires Tamil polity

Whereas the Tamils democratically gave the mandate for the independence of their own country Tamil Eelam by endorsing the Vaddukoddai Resolution of 1976, in the 1977 general elections, the Global Tamil Forum (GTF) calls upon the international community, governments, leaders and the UN to conduct a UN monitored referendum in the North-East region of Sri Lanka and among the displaced Tamils living in other countries, to determine if they wish independence or to be part of a united Sri Lanka, says a crucial part of the GTF resolution passed unanimously in London last week. Houses and buildings in ruins, vehicles abandoned-legacy of a three decade old war
Around 10,000 motor cycles and 25,000 bicycles belonging to LTTEers and civilians who fled, are seen stacked in the Wellimulliwaikkal and Nandikadal areas and other areas in the Mullaitivu district. They, together with the innumerable ruined abodes ranging from what were once thatched cottages to well built houses, remain as the legacy of the three decade old war.The region bears tell tale marks of the war that was fought fiercely between the LTTE and Government forces.     Hello Roshan,

    Unknown to your consciousness, you have done a great service to Tamil Diaspora. Your chauvinistic remarks against the Tamil community in your writings have clearly shown the world who you are and what your hidden motives are. As you know there is not any chance whatsoever for you with your efforts for personal enrichment, either politically or on a gratified level. The Sri Lankan regime does not care either about you or your cry for splitting the community further.

    The great service you have done to the Tamil Diaspora is that it has brought together otherwise dissenting Tamils on major issues. What else could they have done without your chauvinistic writings? You are a wonderful friend of Tamils. Even in enmity there is a touch of hidden friendship. You have proved your worth without knowing it.

    Throw mud again and again on the face of Tamils living both in Sri Lanka and abroad. The mud will not defame them, but, instead, decorate them with garlands of compassion and understanding by the global world citizens.

    Keep doing it. You help us the Tamil Diaspora to make us drive the nail deeper and deeper into the law of consciousness of democratic leaders in power today for change in policy towards Sri Lanka.

      You have hit the nail on the head. Iam also driven to think in your vein. This may be a modus operandi to feel the pulse of the diaspora and to bring discord among them. UNP wss split, JVP was split and the UTF was split and now the next step left is the splitting of the diaspora and create trouble here. The sane and plausable thinking would be to avoid reading the comments and repudiating them. Leave the fake Roshan if I am correct to go hammer and tongs with his nousiatic and repulsive comments – regrdless. Otherwise we will be construed as fools to fall into this net.

    Military Says ‘Not True’

    The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leveling serious allegations against the government and its military last week, declared that the Wanni was in the process of being ‘militarised’ with condominium style buildings being constructed to permanently house thousands of military personnel.
    Former Parliamentarian and TNA Member, Suresh Premachandran claimed, “They are trying to militarise the Wanni by putting up houses for the military in Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu and other areas.”
    He alleged that condominium style houses were being constructed in the Wanni, which indicated that the government was going to station these military personnel permanently in these areas, despite the war being over since May last year.
    “There are also systematic moves for the Sinhalisation of the Wanni and this will automatically happen after the north is militarised. This is just the start,” Premachandran alleged.

    Our Friend India resumed their MASALA TACTICS to control Srilanka using TAMIL ISSUE even after they shot their own feet by defeating the LTTE terrorists who were created by the INDIA to use the LTTE against Srilanka going into others hands but Great Sinhala leaders cleverly use the China and Pakistan to blackmail the India and make the India to support the war against LTTE terrorism and succeeded.
    Our friendly powers inside India- Kerala, Brahmins, Kannsda, Hindutva, Telugus, etc- and Srilanka will destroy the latest Indian move as we did in the past 62 years.
    Our Great Nation -survived more than 3000 years from the tamil invasion from the India and even made the tamilnad to support not only the war against LTTE terrorism and to lock the LTTE brain washed tamils in camps- will thwart any attempt by our relative India using the MIGHTY CHINESE.
    India may be a great country but never ever can take on our long lasting Friend China as India could not even send their PM to Arunachal Pradesh and could not even develop roads in Kashmir after Chinese warnings, If India cannot even challenge the China for meddling into Indian inernal affairs, how can the FEEBLE India allowed to meddle in our Great Nation??
    Srilanka must sign DEFENSE FACT with China at earliest to keep India out of our internal affairs.

    Since, Our Sinhala leader allowed India DIRECTLY involved in the War On LTTE terrorism, India will not dare to go the UN and support war crimes tribunals as India also will have send their military and political leaders to HAQUE for War crimes,
    So, Srilanka must use the opportunity to sign DEFENSE PACT with CHINA at earliest to keep THE ANNOYING FRIEND INDIA out.
    India -1 Medal in Olympics
    China- Several 100 Medals in the same Olympics.
    That is LAZY India never take on even Pakistan let alone China who can disable the whole Indian military control by shooting all Indian satellites controlling the military command. CHINA RECENTLY PROVED by SHOOTING SATELLITE from LAND.
