Security forces pose an obstacle to journalists traveling to Jaffna

Army and Navy personnel have posed an obstacle to journalists traveling from the South to report on the resettlement of the displaced persons and the current situation in Jaffna.

A journalist who traveled to the Nagadeepa area had been informed by a Navy officer on February 28th that permission could not be given for him to carry out his work as they had not been directed to accept the media accreditation card issued by the Government Information Department.

Enews Editor flees country for protection

Lankaenews Editor, Sandaruwan Senadhira it is really learnt has fled the country recently due to the threat on his life. He played a key role in popularizing news websites in Sri Lanka.

Many attempts made by the President and his brothers to take charge of the locally and internationally popular Lankaenews website, were unsuccessful. The staff including Senadhira and News Editor Bennet Rupasinghe started to receive death threats thereafter.

Six military ‘suspects’ detained over Lasantha’s killing 

Police spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakody yesterday (March 6) said that it was too early to say whether former Army Chief Gen. (retd) Sarath Fonseka would be questioned in connection with the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunga, the editor of The Sunday Leader.
