Ban voices concern about lack of progress on key issues in Sri Lanka

8 March 2010 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today expressed concerns about the lack of progress on political reconciliation, the treatment of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the setting up of an accountability process in Sri Lanka since the United Nations signed a joint statement with the Government last year in the wake of the end of its civil war with separatist Tamil rebels.

Mr. Ban told reporters that he had “a frank and honest exchange of views” last Thursday about these subjects during a telephone conversation with President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka, where the runner-up candidate in January’s presidential elections, General Sarath Fonseka, was subsequently arrested for alleged “military offences” and the parliament was dissolved…………….  http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=34014&Cr=lanka&Cr1=

U.N. move uncalled for – President

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has objected to the intention of U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to appoint a panel of experts to advise him (Mr. Ban) on Sri Lanka and said the move was uncalled for. On February 26, Mr. Ban’s spokesperson had said in New York that Mr. Ban had informed Mr. Rajapaksa in the course of a telephone conversation about his intention on the panel. Mr. Ban’s spokesperson had said the panel would advise him on the way forward on accountability issues.

Since the military defeat of the LTTE in May, various functionaries in the U.N. have been issuing statements on the need for a committee to investigate alleged human rights violations in the 34-month long Eelam War IV. Colombo has rejected the suggestion and repeatedly pointed out to the resolution by the Human Rights Commission lauding Sri Lankaon the military defeat of the Tigers. The President’s Secretariat here on Saturday quoted Mr. Rajapaksa as pointing out to Mr. Ban no such action had been taken regarding other states with continuing armed conflicts on a large scale, involving major humanitarian catastrophes.

Ban Ki Moon and Nambiar – both directly involved in the Srilankan Genocide of Tamils- with Srilankan war criminals just buying time as the PRESSURE build up and Ban Ki MOON second time selection coming soon.
That is, the alleged War Criminal Ban Ki Moon just taking the Tamil issue to get SECOND TIME for his benefit not for anybody else. His and Nambiar bank accounts must be checked for BRIBERY from Srilankan and Indian NAZIs and they must be sacked and jailed for their involvement in Genocide of Tamils.

Ban expressed his concern, nothing more will happen as long as Russia, india and China continue to support the SL Govt. Ban is a disgrace, by remaining silence he has contributed to the killing of innocents in SL. Nothing will happen, people were killed in thousands, people were held in camps in their own country refused their basic rights, woman were raped, tortured and killed, woman were used as prostitudes in places run and controlled by army officers. What is going on in that country where is this human rights agencys and this so called UN and Navaneetham Pillai, you are also a woman, look at the plight of these people. do you need hard evidence to step in, is that what you are waiting for then you will not get any one left to tell their tales,is it a crime to born as a Tamil? Also because you have lived under the LTTE control is that again a crime? who is going to save them?
