TNA mulls over contesting outside N-E

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is considering contesting the forthcoming general election outside the North and East.TNA General Secretary Mavai Senathiraja addressing a press conference at the Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) office in Jaffna on Wednesday said the suggestions have been made to the TNA to contest outside the North and East.

“The suggestions will be taken into consideration and the TNA will make its decision after consulting the key political figures such as the Democratic People’s Front (DPF) Leader Mano Ganesan in Colombo. Since the DPF maintains good relations with the TNA, the possibilities of contesting in the Colombo and the Gampaha Districts will be discussed extensively with the DPF and other progressive political outfits,” Senathiraja said.
slmc and tnaAccording to Senathiraja a large number of residents from the North and East have been displaced from the North and East as a result of the conflict in the past. Since the majority of them have established themselves outside the two provinces the TNA is taking into consideration of their inclusion into the general elections.
Meanwhile, Senathiraja also announced at a press briefing on Wednesday that TNA was now on the process of finalizing the allocation of seats for the constituent parties in the alliance.
He also said the TNA is still discussing with the constituent parties on selecting the candidates. He said unlike in the past, TNA’s current election manifesto will emphasize on the unresolved political and humanitarian issues to be resolved within a given time frame.
