Investigations on former Government not suspended

The Government says investigations into allegations of corruption and fraud by the former Government are continuing.

State Minister of Power and Energy Palitha Range Bandara said that the allegations into some members of the former regime are being closely looked into.

He said that more and more information has been unearthed with regards to the alleged large scale fraud committed by the former Government.

However Range Bandara said that the law will be strictly followed and the current Government will not take arbitrary decisions like the former Government did when it acted on former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike or former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.

mahinda groupBandaranaike was impeached by a Parliament Select Committee while Fonseka was imprisoned after being found guilty of allegations raised against him. Both rulings were termed unconstitutional by the then opposition United National Party.

The Government has been accused of failing to meet the expectations of the people after it took office in January this year.

The JVP had recently said that the Government had promised to arrest those responsible for corruption but yet arrested only a few people. (Colombo Gazette)
