Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP E. Saravanabawan takes part in the fundraising event held today in Canada to support war widows to build houses in newly released land in Sampur.

Speaking to The Sunday Leader, Sarawanabawan said that upon an invitation extended by Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC), he visited Canada to take part in the Tamil Canadian Walk ‘Walk-A-Thon for Sampur’ which is part of the humanitarian efforts of the CTC for the displaced people of Sampur. He added that the walk is organised to raise funds to support 41 displaced families to build their houses in the newly released land in Sampur.“Upon an invitation extended, I take part in the event today on behalf of the TNA. Their intention is to help war widows to rebuild lives, restore dignity and help 41 displaced families achieve self sufficiency,” he added.

According to Sarawanabawan, the mission of the fundraising event extends to raising $100,000.00 through the Walk-a-thon in order to support the war widows to build houses, wells and toilets for 41 internally displaced families.

They want to give hope for the men, women, and children of Sampur, improve the lives of people in the community and give them the hope and tools for a sustainable lifestyle,” he added.  The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) reported that since 2009, Tamil Canadian Walk-a-thon has raised over $240,000 in funds to support various local charities, along with increasing the awareness of the charity’s mission. According to them, CTC is a non-profit organisation which serves as the voice of Tamil Canadians.
