Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday requested all to refrain from misinterpreting the Geneva report.
Wickremesinghe said the UN Human Rights Council report has pursued that inquiries be made for determining whether war crimes have been perpetrated in Sri Lanka.

The future steps with regard to the Report of the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Investigation on Sri Lanka will be decided after analyzing the US sponsored resolution, Cabinet Spokesman and Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.
The resolution will be adopted on September 24. He was addressing the Cabinet press briefing at the Information Department yesterday.
Dr. Senaratne said the government was hopeful that the US sponsored resolution to be submitted at the UNHRC would take a pro-Sri Lanka stance, and would probably propose to move to a domestic inquiry removing the international component recommended in the report…………... read all

UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) at its meeting at Geneva on Wednesday on the Sri Lankan issue of alleged war crimes committed in its prosecution of the LTTE war recommended a hybrid legal system to investigate such abuse. (See this newspaper’s yesterday’s edition).
UNHRC has proposed the setting-up of special Courts also comprising international Judges, prosecutors, lawyers and investigators to delve into such alleged war crimes.
“Such a mechanism will be essential to give confidence to all Sri Lankans, in particular the victims, of the independence and impartiality of the process, particularly given the politicization and highly polarized environment in Sri Lanka,” it said……………….. read all
