Former SLFP Vice President and one-time top LTTE member Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, who boasts of mass Tamil support in the North and East would not get the blessings of the Tamil masses even though he joins the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), a Tamil National Alliance politician from Trincomalee said.
Kandasamy Selvaraja, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Trincomalee Urban Council from 2006 to 2015, pointed out that the Tamils would not forget Karuna’s leadership for ruining the unity of the Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims.
“I do not think the Tamils would be foolish enough to take a risk with Karuna once again. We want to live as Sri Lankans and be better recognised than Singapore,” Selvaraja, popularly known as “Supra” told The Island.
Lashing out at the former LTTE military commander of the East, the former UC Chairman said that Tamils even in the north have said “no” to TULF leader Anandasangaree at the recently concluded election contested by him and “Karuna joining Anandasangaree will not help muster any support for the already sinking party.”
“Our leader, R. Sampanthan, wants a united Sri Lanka and not a divided country,” Selvaraja said, adding that no right-thinking Tamil politician would accommodate Karuna, who claimed in a recent television interview that the masses in the north and east in general and the east in particular would welcome him as their representative.
