Govt. has deceived Tamils again – Ex TNA MP

Sri Lanka army soldiers take up position in the north-eastern region of Weli Oya on March 27, 2008. Sri Lanka has launched a probe into a mystery poster campaign that is asking would-be Tamil Tiger suicide bombers to turn themselves in to government hands in return for cash. Tens of thousands have died since the LTTE launched an armed struggle in 1972, to carve out a separate homeland for minority Tamils from the majority Sinhalese community in the island's north and east. The Maithri government had again deceived Tamil political prisoners and this is the climax of communal politics of good governance, Pakkiyaselvam Ariyanethran, former Tamil National Alliance Batticaloa District Parliamentarian said recently.
Majority of the Tamil political prisoners now in prisons were arrested while returning from Middle East countries after completing their contract. They were arrested at the Katunayake Airport in the year 2013, he added.

Those Tamil political prisoners produced in court yesterday were not detained for several years. In the past the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime had stabbed Tamils in their chest. But the present Maithiripla Sirisena government has stabbed the Tamils on their back, he said.

“We the TNA have been requesting each government in power from 2004 to release all Tamil political prisoners. At that time about 800 Tamil political prisoners were in prisons. Later several were released and the number now stands at 217. President Sirisena had been laughing at the TNA leader Sampanthan whenever the latter demanded the release of all Tamil political prisoners”, Ariyanethran said.
