Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday that, though the government had finalised arrangements to hold the 68th Independence Day celebrations at the Galle Face Green, he had not yet been invited to the event. “Even if I am formally invited I will not participate in it,” he said.
Speaking to the media at the Abhayaramaya temple in Narahenpita, he also said that the joint opposition had decided to boycott the event.
“The revenge taken on me has now gone beyond the limit. The government is trying to get revenge from all the Rajapaksas including my children,” he said. “Today I visited my son Yoshitha Rajapaksa and the five others at the Welikada Prison and I am awaiting the decision of the court,” he said.
“As we earlier said, the FCID is an institution which cannot be accepted. Orders are given to it by a committee appointed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and it reports back to him. Several complaints have been made to the Supreme Court and to the Court of Appeal regarding this,” said Mr. Rajapaksa.
Hours after the arrest of his brother Yoshitha Rajapaksa, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s third son Rohitha in a Facebook post, warned the ‘Yahapalanaya’ government with the message: “Dear Yahapalanaya….. You just stood on the tail of THE lion, now don’t expect the lion, not to rip u in to parts.”
Thajudeen’s death – which was brushed under the carpet by Sri Lanka’s law enforcement authorities three years ago – has now become a matter of contention. The Criminal Investigations Department, which conducted investigations into the death over a period of five months, have already informed the court that it was a murder and the Rugby player was brutally tortured before his death!
Former minister Mervin Silva says that Yoshitha Rajapaksa is the one who murdered former Rugby player Thajudeen and his own son Malaka.
Also he has stated that the vehicle which was sent through Major Tissa, to kidnap Malaka, is the one which was used to kidnap and murder Wasim too.
