Formation of a new political party to centralise all ‘Mahinda Supporters’ who want former President Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to power has suffered a delay due to the postponement of Local Government elections, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader Udaya Gammanpila said yesterday.
Speaking at a media briefing he said the Joint Opposition would also establish a separate alliance comprising new political forces including the SLFP’s new party. However he said the formulation process of the new alliance has been delayed due to the postponement of Local Government elections.
Majority of SLFP MPs who had financially gained under Mahinda regime want to choose Mahinda as their leader again to avoid being investigated by the new Maithiri/Ranil Government and be punished by the law of the country. Some of the Mahinda’s followers have left the country with millions and the new Maithiri/Ranil government are trying to bring the funds back but they are accused of moving like snails.
In addition to this the smaller parties who were with Mahinda’s SLFP government have lost support among the public and they want Mahinda Rajapaksha back for their parties survival.
Some want to use ‘Sinhala Only’ as it was the easiest card to gain support among the extremist Sinhala community which is the Majority. These politicians frequently play the Racist card as innocent Sinhalese in the village level are brain washed to think that the westerners are anti Sri Lanka.
These smaller parties lived like puppets of Mahinda during his rule and helped him or turned a blind eye towards the crimes and frauds done by the Mahinda family members and close associates. Some of Mahindas associates were playing racists card to turn Sri Lanka in to Sinhala Buddhist country and Mahinda showed a green light so that he can rule Sri Lanka like a king for life and than pass the crown to his son.
Some political sources said the new alliance would be led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Chairmanship would goes to Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) Leader and MP Dinesh Gunawardena. Other positions including secretary and treasurer will be given to MPs who will support Mahinda without questioning him.
