The FCID yesterday informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris that it has launched a probe into documents belonging to a few firms listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in which UPFA Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa is alleged to have invested billions of rupees earned in the recent past using his official as well as political clout.
The FCID informed Court that many other documents, …belonging to MP Namal Rajapaksa’s twin firms NR Consultancy and Gower’s Cooperate Service Private Limited, had been allegedly misplaced or hiddenaway since 8 January 2015.
However, the FCID told Court that a detailed probe had been launched to locate the documents pertaining to the case.
The FCID added that inquiries conducted thus far into the case had revealed that MP Namal Rajapaksa had invested allegedly fraudulently earned income through the firms Gower’s Cooperate Service Private Limited, NR Consultancy Private Limited, Hellocorp Private Limited, Sunway Properties Private Limited and Gower’s Solution Private Limited, all of which are CSE listed.
FCID officers submitted a progress report to Court stating they had raided an office at Union Place in Colombo with a search warrant obtained on 23 May.
The FCID said that particular place had been used as a residence by a person known as Sujani Bogollagama where they found 17 files of documents belonging to a firm known as Ceylon Premier Sports.
Court also heard that a detailed report on transactions between MP Rajapaksa’s firms and the CSE had been submitted to the Attorney General who had advised them to arrest all suspects who are guilty of violating the Money Laundering Act in this case.
The Colombo Additional Magistrate then ordered the FCID to submit another progress report on the case on 28 July.
