Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate Mohammad Sahabdeen yesterday gave the CID permission to obtain statements of 30 bank accounts and details of telephone conversations of the family members of the former Army Sergeant Major Edirisinghe Jayamanna, a resident of Karandupana, Kegalla, who committed suicide, leaving behind a note claiming he had killed Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge.
The CID making submissions in the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court requested a Court Order directing bank managers to release details of some 30 bank accounts maintained by the family members of the deceased Army officer.
The CID also requested Court to order five cell phone companies to release details about telephone calls taken by the victim during the past three months.
The CID requested Court to order the Kegalla JMO to release details of the post-mortem carried out on Jayamanna’s body.
The CID further requested Court to empower them to record a statement from Army Sergeant Major Premananda Udalagama, who is currently in remand.
The Magistrate made order to the bank managers concerned, the general managers of the cell phone companies, Kegalle JMO and the Kegalle coroner to issue the respective reports to the CID.
The Magistrate also ordered the Director of the Prisons Department to make arrangements for the CID to obtain a statement from suspect Udalagama.
