Health Minister and Cabinet spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has warned the Joint Opposition that information pertaining to all killings, corruption and fraud perpetrated by the previous Rajapaksa administration would be revealed within the next couple of months.
Dr. Senaratne, who was a Cabinet minister of the Rajapaksa government switched his allegiance to the UNP in Dec. 2014 in the wake of Maithripala Sirisena, who decamped to challenge President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the presidential race.
Minister Senaratne was responding to the media following the opening up a new facility at the Kebitigollewa government hospital on Saturday afternoon.
Dr. Senaratne said that the JO would die a natural death once the revelations were made.
Former External Affairs Minister and JO heavyweight Prof. G. L. Peiris challenged the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe government to call long overdue local government elections to test its popularity.
Prof. Peiris said that the UNP and the SLFP couldn’t face the electorate and were exploring ways and means to put off Provincial Council elections in Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Eastern Provinces scheduled for September this year.
Those who had been accusing former President of having USD 18 bn in offshore accounts still could ot explain their failure to recover monies, Prof. Peiris said.
But what the electorate knew for sure was that the government perpetrated mega Central Bank bond scams, ruined the national economy and plunged every sector into crisis.
The handling of the Geneva issue revealed that the administration was without a cohesive strategy to face the challenging task, Prof. Peiris said, claiming that various ministers were making an attempt to divert the attention of masses by propagating lies.
