Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today called for unity in the country saying there cannot be room for another war but was not prepared to give powers to the provincial councils as per the Sri Lankan constitution because it gives some rights to the minorities in North and East. He and President Mithiri fear giving equal rights to the minority will reduce their support among the Sinhalese.
He says the unity must be protected to take the development agenda of the country forward and he did not speak of the promises made to the minority of sharing powers through provincial councils since 8 January 2015.
Wickremesinghe was speaking at an event held at Temple Trees today which was attended by participants from the North and South. The Prime Minister said that the country is now on a path to development and has obtained international support for the process.
The international countries were fooled by former president Mahinda Rajapaksha who promised to implement 13+ amendment to the constitution which will give more powers than what is given by the current constitution if he is allowed to kill more than 40,000 Tamil civilians and more than 1000 LTTE Leaders and their family members who surrendered with white flag after UN negotiated the surrender in May 2009. The international leaders turned away and once the killing was over expected Mahinda to implement the promised political package but Mahinda and his brothers showed their true colours as Sinhale racist by taking cover behind China and Russia and the Western leaders were made to keep their mouths shut.
In January 2015 Mahinda on a popular stand after killing thousands of Tamils called for a snap election like the British PM May, but like the Brexit win and Trump winning as the US president Mahinda lost by a smaller margin. The new President Maithiri and PM Ranil promised a political package if they are elected but as Sinhalese they are no different to Mahinda group and are not prepared to implement a political package as promised. Ranil and Maithiri wants to give development only to the minority in North and East but not the promised political pacage.
Ranil and Maithiri are playing the same racist card like Mahinda and his group. Interestingly BBS a racist Buddhist group which was the mastermind of Gotha and created racist attacks were taking cover by President Mahinda and the police and army had to turn away from the attacks on Muslims.
Militant monk movements such as the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) were created by the opposition during the tenure of President Rajapaksa’s Presidency and is now being fuelled by the same elements of the former opposition who are now in the government, said UPFA Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa. He added that it was a premeditated move meant for political agendas. Namal Rajapaksa added that these monks who were active during Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidency were criticized by the then Opposition, but the incumbent government is being indifferent to the chaos wreaked by the militant group.
The Government has come under fire for remaining silent as the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) last week continued its own version of a ‘holy war’ ridiculing Muslims and even the chief prelates. Muslims expressed concerns over the manner in which BBS General Secretary, the Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, was making open statements against the minorities which could threaten the peace between the two communities. Gnanasara Thero last week said that co-existence is applicable only for Buddhists and not for others. He also criticised Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Christian missionaries and non-governmental organisations.
The Aluthgama and Beruwala incidents are still fresh in the minds of Muslims. Some Muslims are of the view that the Ven. Thera could speak about radical Muslims but targeting all Muslims and other religions cannot be expected in a civilised nation like ours.
Ranil said that
- Japan has come forward to assist Sri Lanka while India is to fund the construction of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) power plant in the country.
- The Prime Minister also said that China had offered USD 300 million to assist Sri Lanka.
The Prime Minister said that if anyone breaks the law the Police have a responsibility to take action but President Maithiri has blamed the police for NOT taking action against the Racist attacks on minority.
It only shows Mahinda, Mathiri or Ranil are politicians and will never implement their promises of political packages, as they are true followers of Lord Buddha.
