Deploying intelligence officers to fulfill personal political aims contravening their official duties is a serious matter says the General Secretary of the JVP Tilvin Silva. He said this when a daily newspaper asked for his opinion regarding Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera’s exposure of intelligence services in the country.
He said there is ample evidence in the past regarding officers of intelligence services being deployed for political ends and added that Mr. Mangala Samaraweera’s exposure should be investigated and if there is any truth measures should be taken to deploy the officers of the relevant intelligence sections only in their official duties said Mr. Tilvin Silva.
He said if the government acts in such a manner there would not be any risk of the names and details of officers in intelligence services being revealed. The government, if it is concerned regarding the security of the country, should refrain from deploying security forces and officers of intelligence services for its political agendas added the General Secretary of the JVP.
