Corrupt Nawaz Sharif has resigned as prime minister of Pakistan following a decision by the country’s Supreme Court to disqualify him from office.
The ruling came after a probe into his family’s wealth following the 2015 Panama Papers dump linking Mr Sharif’s children to offshore companies.
The five judges reached a unanimous verdict in the Islamabad court, which was filled to capacity. “Following the verdict, Nawaz Sharif has divested himself of his responsibility as prime minister,” a spokesman for Mr Sharif’s office said in a statement. There was heightened security in the capital, with tens of thousands of troops and police deployed.
The court’s ruling stated that Mr Sharif had been dishonest in not disclosing his earnings from a Dubai-based company in his nomination papers during the 2013 general election.
One of the judges, Ejaz Afzal Khan, said that Mr Sharif was no longer “eligible to be an honest member of the parliament”. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan earlier advised Mr Sharif to accept Friday’s verdict. The court has recommended anti-corruption cases against several individuals, including Mr Sharif, his daughter Maryam and her husband Safdar, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and others.
A close associate of Nawaz Sharif the Former Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa and his family members also stand accused of corruption, nepotism and human rights violations during his country’s long civil war. Corrupt Nawaz and Mahinda were very close and Sri Lankan MP’s want Mahinda family to be face a similar probe by a Sri Lankan court but Mahinda is blessed with the support of the current Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe who is accused of abusing his powers to help Mahinda family cover up the cuprrptions
PM’s behaviour had created the question by a journalist ”It looks like Ranil had received a part of the large amount of gold gone missing at the end of war in May 2009 and the commissions received by Rajapaksha family in the Arms dealings from Pakistan leaders well known for corruption?”.
Rajapaksha family members behave in a confident manner that they will never be charged for financial corruptions and murders of journalists and Human Rights activists who opposed Rajapaksha family members during their rule as they have the fullest support of current PM Ranil who shows no respect to the President Maithiri and rules Sri Lanka.
