British club rugby player dies in Colombo

A member of a rugby team, visiting Sri Lanka from Britain, had died after being admitted to hospital with respiratory difficulties.

The deceased is a 26 year old British national was part of a 22 member group of rugby players which arrived in the country last Thursday. According to Police, the team played a friendly rugby match series in Colombo on Saturday.

The group is claimed to have attended a night club in Colpetty following the conclusion of the matches. Police said two of the players had suffered from respiratory difficulties after returning to the team hotel around 4 am last night.

The hotel management had taken measures to admit the two players to hospital following which one of the British national was pronounced dead. The other player is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo and is still in critical condition.
