Activists of Periyar Sindanaiyalargal Iyyakkam attempted to stage a mock funeral procession, protesting against anti Tamil BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s proposed participation in a military conference in Sri Lanka next week.
Swamy has been accused of receiving free holidays from his associate Rajapakshe to help him cover the killing of thousands of Tamil civilians. Swamy a Hindu bramin thinks and treats that he is of upper class and the Tamil community are untouchables. He fells Trade with Sri Lanka is more important than killing of Tamil civilians.
Nearly 50 activists of the outfit assembled near the Singaravelar statue with a “paadai” and an effigy of Swamy on it along with the BJP flags. The activists were seen beating it with chappals. Police stopped them when they tried to move ahead with it. The activists and police personnel were engaged in a scuffle as cops were firm on not allowing the protestors to go ahead with the stir.
Then the activists tried to bury the effigy in the nearby sewage, but police snatched it away from them. The activists then dispersed.
It may be recalled that BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had been nominated to represent India in the military conference in Sri Lanka, which will be held from August 18 to 20. Swamy himself had said in Madurai a few days back that he would definitely participate in the international conference organised in Sri Lanka.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi and MDMK leader Vaiko had urged the Centre not to send an Indian delegation to the conference.
Activists of Tanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam were arrested on Sunday when they tried to stage a black flag demonstration against Racist BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for his alleged “support” to Sri Lankan army which killed more than 40,000 Tamil Civilians in Maty 2009 and its president Mahinda Rajapaksa who is accused of War Crime.
