Racist Minister and a close associate of President Mahinda Minister Weerawansa had met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa and extended his full support to the president in the next presidential elections provided he accepts his 12 proposal. It was widely reported in media that President Rajapaksa gave the green light to the 12 proposals presented by the National Freedom Front to the government. One of the 12 proposal is to abolish the 13th Amendment.
Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa, has said that it is better to go for a new constitution than trying to revive and repair a discredited constitution.
Weerawansa said that if the executive presidency is to be changed, the 13th Amendment has to be changed also. “The electoral system must be changed too. If all these are changed, it will be a better attempt at constitutional reform,” he pointed out.
Speaking to the media recently he has said that the present constitution has its problems and it has been “repaired” on 18 occasions. It would be better to introduce a new one afresh, rather than trying to repair it further, he said.
Meanwhile Athuraliye Rathana Thera of the Jathika Hela Urumaya is threatening to leave the government if the powers of the executive presidency is not clipped before the next election.
