champika-ranawakaJHU MP Athuraliye Ratana TheraAction taken by the government against rebel UPFA politicos, namely Technology and Research Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and JHU MP Athuraliye Ratana Thera is a warning for those hoping to crossover, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) said.

BASL Rule of Law Standing Committee Chairman Lal Wijenayake said that while Ranawaka is accused of being guilty of corruption in reference to a coal deal, Ratana Thera is being charged with the misuse of public funds.

“Ranawaka went against the government on a matter of principle, but is now accused with an incident which took place sometime ago. The Attorney General’s Department said that Ratana Thera misused public funds. This is only because both of them dared to oppose the government. Government ministers are being held hostage. This is a warning for those hoping to crossover,” he said.
