President Mahinda Rajapaksa had a secret meeting with Bodu Bala Sena representatives last night (23), say Temple Trees sources. This meeting had been arranged by defence ministry secretary Nandasena Gotabhaya.
BBS general secretary Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera and theoretician Dr. Dilanthe Withanage had participated in this meeting at Temple Trees.
Earlier in the day, as a BBS team that had called on the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter in Kandy in the morning was returning to Colombo, the president had telephoned them and invited them for a meeting as soon as possible. Accepting the invitation, they had gone to Temple Trees around 7.00 pm.
At this meeting, the president had commended the BBS for its activities, and asked them to carry on doing what the defence secretary tells them. The president has also praised them for their raid on minister Risath Badurdeen’s office, and asked that Rauff Hakeem, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dilan Perera be attacked irrespective of their positions.
Explaining the BBS’s reported criticism of minister Basil Rajapaksa, Gnanasara Thera has told the president that he had not insulted his mother, and that it was only a fabrication by the media.
“No, Basil has told me everything. He will take care of the Muslims. Continue attacking him. I will take care of Watareka Vijitha. Let’s do this without making a mess of it. Only thing is this should be done without allowing the opposition to gain any advantage,” the president has told the BBS representatives.
At this meeting, the BBS has requested that a special unit be set up in the police to deal with religious matters. And, that they be given the powers to give orders to that police unit. As a result of that request, on the instructions of the president, the defence secretary today established a special religious unit in the police.
