In the next 10 to 12 days, more than half the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MPs will crossover to the Opposition, the joint Opposition common candidate, Maithripala Sirisena claimed at an election propaganda rally in Bulathsinhala on the 9 December.
He added that all those who work at the Temple Trees will also vote for the ‘Swan’ symbol. “I have been visiting the Temple Trees for over 20 years. So I tell you that all those people will definitely vote for the “Swan” symbol, he said.
Sirisena added that only a few have crossed-over and that more will join in the near future.
“The rest haven’t come as yet. However, in ten to twelve days, I am certain that they will come” he added. “90% of the government ministers are not actively taking part in the President’s election campaign. They talk to us daily. They ask how they can disrupt the internal operation. You must remember that we are going to topple the government from within and outside,” he added.
He added that some people questioned his decision to leave the Party, stating that he was risking quite a bit, including his life. “However I would rather die for the freedom of people and democracy,” he said.
