EPDP is a strong supporter of the President Mahinda Rajapaksha who is very unpopular in North for killing more than 40,000 Tamil Civilians in month of May 2009 alone. Due to the Presidential election to be held on the 8th of January the EPDP are trying to create uncomfortable situation in the North and make the public NOT to vote on the 8th as the public will vote for Mithiri if they go to vote as they don’t like Mahinda or his supporters of EPDP.
The Tamil and Muslim voters of North East are seen as the king makers on the 8th January 2015. The unpopular Mahinda supporters are indirectly creating fear in the minds of the public and are trying to make the public NOT to vote on the 8th January. It is learnt that the EPDP may even Kill few people with the help of the military on the 6th and 7th of January to make people in North and East lock them self in their houses and do not vote.
The Jaffna District Development Coordinating Committee meeting yesterday turned into a battle field in the presence of Chief Minister C.V.Wignesawaran when EPDP leader and Minister Douglas Devananda tried to stop Councillor Sivagilingam was talking to the praise of the members in the Hall.
Trouble sparked off when councillor K.Sivajilingam was on his feet said that EPDP Leader Devananda was misleading the public by giving fales information. During the clash, five EPDP members and three TNA members were reportedly injured, reports from Jaffna said. As for the video it can b seen that the EPDP leader Devananda’s Coordinating Secretary A.Rajkumar attacking the TNA Leaders who was eventually joined by the EPDP members.
EPDP members were also extensively using abusive language at each other forcing the Chief Minister to leave the DDC meeting. Unable to bring the situation under control, Chief Minister Wigneswaran walked out of the meeting as members attempted to hurl chairs at each other.
A District Development Council (DDC) meeting, which was co-chaired by Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Chief Minister C.V Wigneswaran and SL Minister Douglas Devananda, ended in violence at Jaffna District Secretariat on Tuesday, when the EPDP paramilitary leader Mr Devananda faced objections from the NPC councillors of the TNA for turning the DDC meeting a venue for Rajapaksa’s election propaganda. The paramilitary goons of the EPDP began to assault the TNA representatives who objected the conduct of the EPDP leader at the meeting. EPDP goons assaulted five TNA members, including NPC Ministers Aingaranesan and Sathiyalingam. The EPDP has also claimed that five of its personnel had sustained injuries in the violent episode.
Justice C.V. Wigneswaran, who addressed the press after the clash said the assault was a pre-determined deliberate move on the part of the EPDP which had brought in certain personalities with the intention of causing trouble at the meeting.
The EPDP leader who has been backing the SL president Mahinda Rajapaksa was reading a four page political address criticising the TNA and the NPC.
The EPDP has also been using the DDC meetings in Ki’linochchi district to wage a propaganda assault on the TNA.
