Wife of former UPFA Mullariyawa-Kollonnawa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Solaarachchi Thiwanka yesterday told media in Colombo that she was pregnant and she fears for her husband’s life.
“Do not harm my husband,” she said adding that the Colombo Crime Division personnel, (CCD), come in search of him every five minutes. She showed some pitucres to media the vehilces STF personnel used to come to her house in Kollonnawa.
Thiwanka said that her husband’s life was at a risk.
“I don’t know why the government is doing this to us. My husband does not use weapons and don’t kill him. Don’t we have a freedom to support anyone according to our convictions?,” said Solangaarachchi’s wife.
Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said last night that the CCD personnel needed to verify a statement made by UPFA Dehiwala-Mount Lavania Urban Council memebr Savithri Ramal de Silva a few days back that he had been given a pistol by Solangaarachchi for his protection and then the former had handed it over to the police.
Attorneys-at-Law Asiri Jayathilake and Gunaratne Wanninayake, who were with Thivanka at the press conference yesterday, asked the Inspector General of Police N. K. Illangakoon how a suspect arrested with a weapon had been released on police bail; such a suspect could not be bailed out by even a Magistrate, they said.
