The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has made a request to President Maithripala Sirisena to appoint an exclusive body to solve the problems of the Tamil speaking people in the North and East.
TNA Leader R. Sampanthan said that he will be emphasizing on an exclusive body, to solve the problems of Tamil speaking people when he meets Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe next week.

Sampanthan added that the party emphasized that the lands in the high security zones should be handed over to the people immediately. Also it was recommended that the new government remove all army camps from the private lands of the people.
“Resettlement activities have been dragging on for years. People from Valikamam-North and Sampur should be resettled immediately. These people, who were displaced during the war, have not yet been resettled in their own places even after the war,” he commented.

Therefore the TNA urged the new government to take immediate action to resettle these people in their own places, Sampanthan stated.
“A burning issue was reported from Valikamam-Chunnakam where well water has been contaminated due to an oil leak from a power plant. This has caused chaos among the people in Chunnakam. People have complained that almost 700 wells have been contaminated dueto the oil leak, therefore the government should take immediate action to solve this water contamination issue,” he said.

He also stated they have requested the new government to take immediate steps to release the political prisoners. “We have been continuously urging the release of the political prisoners for a long time. The government should take action to release political prisoners,” he stressed.

The TNA suggested forming a separate body to address the educational problems of the children of North and East, he added.
TNA Leader made the request at the first National Executive Council Meeting held with President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday(27).
