With corruption never spoken of more than at the recent presidential election, if in the next two to three years the CID does not make arrests of corrupt politicians, it would reflect badly on the President and the Prime Minister, the JVP said.

It would mean the President or the Prime Minister would be preventing the arrest of corrupt politicians JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said in Anuradhapura, Monday (9).
The amount of talk of corruption during the 2015 presidential campaign was the most heard of, since 1994. Thus, everyone was waiting for the corrupt to be punished. “People call and ask us when, even one or two corrupt politicians will be sent to prison,” Dissanayake said.

The JVP will continue to do all it could to ensure that those who misappropriate public funds will be punished. The JVP has already lodged several complaints, some on high profile projects accounting to massive amounts of funds misappropriated. The JVP had made such complaints to the CID and the Bribery Commission, Dissanayake said.
Some of those complaints were made a few weeks ago by JVP representatives and the JVP had criticized the commission for not taking adequate action.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena said he will appoint a special presidential commission to punish those guilty of misappropriating public funds.
