Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Jaffna District Parliamentarian, S. Sritharan, seeking international assistance towards solving the Tamil political problem said the new Sirisena Government is yet to make any effort to win the hearts and minds of the people.
Sritharan met Deputy British High Commissioner, Laura Davis, at his office in Kilinochchi when the envoy visited the Northern Province a few days ago. Elaborating further on the post-election situation in the North, Sritharan said, “People in the North are losing hope gradually on the new regime. There is no change in the Army presence, Army camps and surveillance. There is no sign of resettling the IDPs.”
Commenting on the political solution to the Tamil question, the parliamentarian said, for the past 70 years the Tamil political issue remained unresolved and now the international community must pay attention to solve the Tamil crisis.
Lamenting on the level of military involvement in the day-to-day life in the North, Sritharan said, “The rehabilitated former Tamil militant cadres have not been rehabilitated and they are still struggling without proper support to live. The military is recruiting them and keep them for their own benefits.”
