It is a chilling sight. On stage, Galagoda-Atte Gnanasara Thera is raining words of poison and fire. Below, a large crowd, made up of monks and ordinary people, are listening intently. They do not look violent or angry. There is hardly a sign that an hour or so later they will turn into a baying murderous mob. Many of the lay-listeners have their hands together, in the traditional gesture of worship. That and the focused looks on their faces indicate that as far as they are concerned they are listening to not to a political speech but to a religious sermon[ii].

The unwanted and unnecessary attack was mayhem of an unprecedented scale in and around Aluthgama which later spread to Dharga town and Beruwala following the highly inflammatory speech by Sinhala racist outfitBodu Bala Sena’s General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe GnanasaraThero, the Buddhist Zionist who is hell bent on shedding Muslim blood.

Sporadic violence against Muslim businesses continued today, with incidents being reported from Badulla and Mawanella while the Police fired tear gas a shortwhile ago at a crowd who attempted to march towards Dharga town.
At a specially convened meeting today in which government Ministers including Basil Rajapaksa, Galagodaathe Gnanasara and others participated, it was tacitly agreed that the speech made by Gnanasara was not to be played according to informed sources.
