UNP leadership council member Mangala Samaraweera says that his going abroad early yesterday (August 31) was not a mark of dejection or protest in any way.
Noting that he had gone on a private trip which was planned a few months back, MP Samaraweera said that he had obtained the approval of the UNP leadership ahead of his departure.
He was responding to queries by ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’ with regard to a news report published on Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s ‘Lanka C News’ website.
The website had reported that MP Samaraweera, the chief of the UNP media unit had suddenly gone to London as a mark of protest against the party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe’s decision to appoint Sjith Premadasa as party deputy leader.
Speaking further, MP Samaraweera said that he is returning to the island on Sep. 08 and would attend elections meetings from Badulla until the Uva Provincial Council elections are held.
