British High Commissioner(HC) John Ranking discusses with Vanni district parliamentarian Sivasakthi Anandan on families affected by the war.
Parliamentarian briefed high commissioner on land acquisitions, disappeared persons, safety of political prisoners, rehabilitation for widow mothers and essential facilities for all former terrorists.High Commissioner listens to the parliamentarian and promised pay special attention on all these problems.High Commissioner was accompanied by his assistant. Northern Provincial Councilor Dr.C.Sivamohan also present at this meeting.
During the time of discussion parliamentarian Sivasakthi Anandan brief about the resettling Sinhala people in Vanni district, constructing Buddhist temples in Vanni district, military intervention in civil activities, family members of disappeared persons were continuously threatened by military and intelligence unit members, police and military relationships with civilians. MP further noted rehabilitated LTTE members were continuously monitored, names of Tamil war victims were ignore in housing projects. I’m well aware on this situation, commissioner responded. He also said that he will inform relevant authorities on issues related to military personals. Commissioner questioned about the resettlement activities in Vanni district? MP said 300 families residing at Vavuniya Poontottam and Chidambarapuram yet to be resettled in their own land. For more than 20 years these people residing in camps, MP said. |
