Northern Chief Minister will NOT be informed of Land grabbing or setting up of Army Camps in his council. Only the Sinhala Leaders will be informed of Land grabbing as they will NOT oppose the Army.Sri Lanka Army denies the statement of Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran which stressed as he should also be informed about setting up of Army Camps and land acquisition programs in the Northern Province.
Speaking to Lankapuvath, Army Media Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya stated that the decisions related to Country’s National Security empower the Central Government only, and it is not something concern Local Governments, nor Provincial Councils or its councilors. The National Security and Defence related decisions are Central Government sponsored, even in the countries like India and United States.
Setting up of Army Camps and land acquisition programs in the country directly falls under the National Security Council of Sri Lanka which is the executive body of the Sri Lankan Government that is charged with the maintenance of National Security with authority to direct the Sri Lankan Military and Police, under the esteemed guidance and patronage of His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
