Secret trial at Supreme Court

gota-and-mahindaA petition seeking an interpretation regarding the 18th amendment to the constitution has been reportedly taken up today (Sept 09) in chambers of the chief justice.

The case was heard secretly without the participation of any outsiders, reports say.

It was revealed that the panel of judges has been comprised of Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, Justice Priyantha Jayawardena and Justice Eva Wanasundera and petition was filed under the case number CHA/REG/MIS:01 .

It was rumored in the field of law that according to the 18th amendment the incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa cannot contest for the presidency due to a mistake made by the government while amending the constitution.
