Spirit of ‘Black Day’ will stay with people: Karunanidhi

karunanidhi1DMK president M. Karunanidhi said on Thursday that the spirit of the ‘Black Day’ observed by the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) to condemn Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s address to the U.N. general council would always stay with the people.

“Even if it fails to reach the ears of the Central and State governments, the spirit will remain with the people,” he said.

Clad in black along with party treasurer M.K. Stalin and other senior leaders, Mr. Karunanidhi said that even in the past, the TESO had prevailed upon the Centre to get justice to the Sri Lankan Tamils.

Black flags were hoisted at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters, and Mr. Karunanidhi’s residence at Gopalapuram as per the resolution adopted by the TESO that Mr. Rajapaksa not be allowed to address the U.N. after he refused to allow a U.N. team to probe the alleged human rights violations in Sri Lanka in the last phase of the war.

DMK workers also distributed pamphlets explaining the reason for observing the Black Day.
